It is believed that this earthwork is a burial mound, built by the prehistoric Adena culture, who inhabited this area from about 500 BC to 100 AD. Burial mounds are some of the oldest examples of sacred architecture in the Midwest. Kinsey Mound is rare in that it remains in good condition.
